A 'Maybe' Goodbye

Posted on 2007-04-21

It is one of those times when even before you make/take a decision, you know it has a high probability of not working, but you go ahead anyway.

With this shoutpost blog, I did break the jinx of first 5 posts, but since this doesn't support the 'tags' and is not very flexible, I have decided to return to my blogspot account. Hoping I continue posting at whatever frequency possible. And hoping that really works out!!

B-bye...(though I'd be comin back some..)

My Sunday Today...

Posted on 2007-04-15

Like I expected, today was totaaly uneventful. I had slept quite late yesterday. Actually I slept at 7 in the morning, so it was early this morning. Then I woke up around 5:30 in the evening. My friends had already left for Cafe Coffee Day for snacks and some cold shakes.

I got up, brushed, went to pot, had a bath. By then it was already 7:30. Some other people were going out for dinner, so I joined them.

We went to Red Dragon and had Munchow Soup and Lollipop Chichen to start with. Main course was Chillie Chicken, Chicken Lemon with Fried Rice and noodles. Food was kinda okayish, not very good. Then we walked the whole way back...about 2.5 Kms. Had Ice-creams on our way back, and now I'm in my room doing this and re-labeling the new songs I downloaded the day before.

Music - 3 - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Posted on 2007-04-14

Of the maybe 7-8 bands that I'm addicted to right now, one is RHCP. Although now I clearly remember having watched Scar Tissue on TV long time before I even started listening to English music, but the first song I actually remember liking was (not at all surprisingly) Californication. That was about 4 years back.

Then about last May, I heard the new album, and downloaded a lot of RHCP songs. Since then, I've been hooked. My average day must have at least 5-6 RHCP songs. My favorite as on this instant are:

1. Scar Tissue
2. Soul To Squeeze
3. Road Trippin'
4. Otherside
5. Snow (Hey Oh!)

Checkout their bio at 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hot_chili_peppers'

John Anthony Frusciante, their lead guitarist is currently at No. 18 on the Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Times. Checkout his bio at 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Frusciante'

Exams Finally Over!!

Posted on 2007-04-14

After what was a 7-day-long, constant head-ache, my 2nd mid sems got over at 2:30pm today. Had first 'Computer Systems Architecture' from 11 to 12 and later 'System Analysis and Design' from 1:30 to 2:30pm.

Time since although not out-of-the-world fun, has still been better than last week's.

After restricting South Africa to an embarrasing 194, NZ is currently gliding smoothly at 42/1 in 12 overs. Their Captain Stephen Fleming is on 14 from 25 balls. He really needs to do something with the bat, his worldcup till this match, irrespective of his team's impressive performance, has been rather dull.

My friends are in the next room drinking. I, too, was initially, but decided not to have too much, cuz I always end up getting to sentimental and stuff.

I'll have to say my college authourities are very stupid. We've been provided wi-fi connectivity in our hostels, but they've restricted a lot of sites like - orkut, porn sites, matrimonials, etc. So every time you click on a link that'll take you to such a place, you get a blocking message that goes "Dear Mr XXXX XXXXXX, the site you're trying to access comes in the category <>, you currently do not have permition to access this content. Thank you". The categories I've encountered till now have mostly been Porn, Dating and in 1 case Death and Suicide (I was trying to ollow a link to some Motivational Guru).

I'm not sure what their definitions of each category are. Once, for whatever reasons, I was checking the site of the United Nations, www.un.org.  When I clicked at the employement, www.jobs.un.org, I was told "Dear...................under Porn"!!!! I mean c'mon!! UN is like the Church or something....

Anyways, as a result, I haven't been regular here. I'm doing this right now from a cafe, that luckily has some music I like..

Music - 2 - No Doubt & Gwen Stefani

Posted on 2007-04-11

I don't exactly remember when I'd first heard 'Don't Speak', but after many years since then, when I suddenly saw it's video on MTV, I could recall that I'd seen the song before (mostly because Gwen wears a 'bindi' in the song <a tiny dot on her forehead> and I had remembered that).

Then when the Hey Baby album came out, I got a few of their songs, and I liked them ok..Not too much but just fine types. But about 2-3 months back, I started listening to No Doubt a lot, and I realised how much I liked them. First it was just Don't Speak but of late I'm more hooked to 'Simple Kind Of Life' and 'Running'.

Simple Kind Of Life is just amazing. It may not be epical like November Rain or Stairway but for some reason I'm just into that song right now. It doesn't talk about great philosophy or anything. It is not a hardcore thought provoking or too sentimental song. It's just fine in itself. Rather, it's lack of ambition makes it more attractive.

And Gwen's voice is really nice. I mean, in female singers, I realise (and like) that Whitney Housten or Celine Dion have amazing range and power, but they're like too 'up there'. Gwen's seems so much more possible (for lack of a better word).

I don't exactly remember where (maybe wikipedia or Rolling Stones), but some critic had criticized Mariah Carey. He said that having a good (extreme?) voice is fine, but your song should not suffer due to or be shadowed by the voice. That Maraih's voice often doesn't further/serve the cause/emotion of her songs. I don't listen ti Mariah Carey so I won't comment on this, but I do agree with that critic's logic. Gwen somehow adds to the song. Her voice is plain in a likeable way.

Mid-Semesters Going On

Posted on 2007-04-11

My 2nd Mid-sems started this Monday. Total 7 exams, one daily till Saturday, when I have 2. Last 2 (Numerical Analysis and Material Science) went awful. Today was Operating System which went ok.

I seriously needed to do very well in these exams to improve my CGPA but that aint gonna happen this time. I'll try and work for the End-sems (they'll be held in last 2 weeks of May).

So everyday till Saturday, Best Of Luck To ME..

A Test A Day Keeps MY Happy Times Away

Posted on 2007-04-02

Had a quiz in the course 'Principles Of Programing Languages'. Didn't do as bad as I could've but certainly Could have done better. Have another evaluation tomorrow. Lab evaluation of same subject. They'll mostly test us in C++.

Then day after I have a quiz in Numerical Analysis. And my 2nd mid-semester exams start coming Monday. So, my plate is too full. To my credit, I always manage to find time to do other stuff (cuz I keep away from time-wasting activities like 'preparing for tests' and stuff).

Still hoping for the moment when IT'll hit me and I'll start doing what ought to be done, and do better in academics. I wasn't always bad at all this. In fact I was rather good. All through my school, I always was amongst the top 4 in my class. The Good Old Days..... Still have the pleasant dreams sometimes..

Back To Hostel...

Posted on 2007-04-01

Just back to hostel. This 'home' visit was very little home and a lot of traveling. Was in my home for less than 18hrs. Reached my place at 8 pm, Fri. Then Sat at 2 afternoon for New Delhi to see my grandmother. She had just had a knee-replacement operation. She was alright and seemed cheerful.

Then today I returned after a lot of unsuccessful tries to find the Bose speakers for my dad's ipod.

Have a quiz tomorrow, so I'll not to get too disturbed by people studying around me(I gave up on the quizes 2 semesters back).

At Home for weekend..

Posted on 2007-03-30

After a 4 hrs 30 mins and very unpleasant bus journey, I got home. That was at 7 pm. It's 11 pm now. My initial hours have been a bad experience due to this throbbing head-ache I've got. They are quite rare actually. I get head-aches maybe once in 2 months or so.. But they're always not welcomed.

I might have to go to Delhi tomorrow (another 4 hrs journey) with my father. My grandmother had a knee-replacement surgery 3 days back so all family members are going to see her. And Sunday I'll take a bus from Delhi itself for Patiala, where I attend college.

[NOT listenin to anything currently cuz I've misplaced my headphones, though I'd love to listen 'Free Bird' by 'Lynard Skynard'. The song almost haunted me my entire bus journey today..]
